Library cards are issued free of charge to individuals who meet identification and registration requirements as outlined below:
Applicants must provide two (2) forms of identification: one form must include a valid, recognizable photo & both forms must show a current address. Acceptable forms of address verification include, but are not limited to: Kentucky Driver's License or state-issued ID, printed checks, vehicle registration, military or government ID, rental or lease agreement, current utility bill, or an envelope with a recent postmark showing the current address.
The library offers multiple library card options for children and teens ages 17 and younger.
Parents or legal guardians may request a library card for a child by completing the Library Card Registration Form for Minors and must hold a valid library card at the time of issurance. The parent or legal guardian's identification will be linked to the child's account. By default, the parent or legal guardian assumes responsibility for all materials checked out on the child's card, including fines, fees, or replacement costs.
Parents or legal guardians are responsible for supervising their child's use of the library and for determining what materials are appropriate for their child. Library staff may offer suggestions based on reading or interest levels, but final responsibility rests with the parent or legal guardian.
The registration process is the same for all youth library card levels. At the time of registration, the parent or legal guardian will select the appropriate youth library card level and indicate whether the child is permitted to access digital materials. Digital access may be enabled or restricted at the parent or guardian's discretion.
A parent or legal guardian may request a change to a child's library card level or digital access at any time. Changes must be made in person by the parent or legal guardian and require a completion of a new Library Card Registration Form for Minors.
Specific borrowing priviledges and access levels are determined by the selected youth library card type, as outlined below:
Youth Starter Card
Provides access to juvenile materials, including the following circulation classes: board books, easy readers, juvenile fiction, juvenile nonfiction, & juvenile graphic novels.
Youth Standard Card
Provides access to juvenile and young adult materials, including the following circulation classes: board books, easy readers, juvenile fiction, juvenile nonfiction, juvenile graphic novels, young adult fiction, & young adult graphic novels.
Youth Plus Card
Provides access to juvenile, young adult, and adult materials, including the following circulation classes: board books, easy readers, juvenile fiction, juvenile nonfiction, juvenile graphic novels, young adult fiction, young adult graphic novels, adult fiction, adult nonfiction, & adult graphic novels.
Borrowers 18 years or older can apply for a library card via the form below. Metcalfe County residents will have access to digital content. Non-Metcalfe County residents are limited to in-house materials and cannot access digital content. Once the form is submitted a library employee will contact the individual within three business days with Patron ID number and PIN.
Borrowers will have one month to pick up the physical card upon presentation of ID and address verification. In the event the physical card is not picked up within the one-month period, the card will be discontinued. Borrowers can only apply for an Instant Access Card one time, thereafter they would be required to apply for a physical card.
A Limited Access Card may be issued to patrons who are unable to verify a current address or who have outstanding fines exceeding $25. Patrons with a Limited Access Card may check out up to three (3) items at a time.
The Limited Access Card is a temporary option intended to provide continued library access while eligibility requirements are resolved. The card may be upgraded to a standard library card at any time once the patron's address is verified and/or outstanding fines are paid in full.
Non-Metcalfe County residents are limited to in-house materials and cannot access digital content due to the cost structure of digital collections.
Lost or stolen cards may be replaced free of charge!
