How do I get a library card? 

Library cards are issued FREE to anyone (age 18 & older) with 2 valid forms of ID (one containing a picture) and both containing proof of current address at. Patrons under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or legal guardian with a valid library card present. The parent's name will be noted on the child's record as the person responsible for materials checked out on the card.

How do I download eBooks?

The Metcalfe County Public Library is one of the libraries partnering in the KY Libraries Unbound database powered by OverDrive. Click on the KY Libraries Unbound icon located on the library’s main page. This is an online collection of free downloadable e-books, audio books and music. By using the link to the KY Libraries Unbound, library users can learn what is available and how to download their choices to a specific device (Kindle, iPhone, iPad, etc), and select books to download!In addition to the how-to tutorials viewed on the KY Libraries Unbound website, the staff at the Metcalfe County Public Library are available to assist you when you download books and music.​

How long can movies/books be rented out? 

The checkout periods for library materials by registered users are set as follows:
Books: 2 Weeks
Magazines: 1 Week
Audio Books: 1 Week
DVDS: 7 Days with a limit of 5 DVDs per Household. DVDs may only check out on an adult’s library card.

How do I put a hold or reserve on a book? 

Registered users can request no more than 5 items at any one time through the library’s website. Items immediately available will be pulled from the shelves and be waiting at the circulation desk for user pick up. For items with multiple requests, the user’s name will be placed on a reserve (or hold) list in the order the requests are received. Reserved materials will be circulated on a first request—first serve basis. If requested materials are not picked up within seven (7) days after notification, the items will be re-shelved or the next person on the reserve list will be notified.

Does the library have internet access? 

The library has public access computers available and free WiFi throughout the building.  The library requires any patron under 18 to have a parent or legal guardian sign an Internet Safety Policy before using the Internet.User access to library computers is limited to one hour per day. Printing service is available with a cost of .20 cents per page after the first 5 pages.

Can I order a book from another library? 

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is offered to any library user with a current library card in good standing with the MCPL. The user should have no outstanding charges or overdue materials of any kind. The loan period for ILL materials is set by the lending library.MCPL does not charge for this service, but the lending library may; if so, the charge will be passed on to the user. If loss or damage occurs while the item is in the user’s possession, the user will be charged replacement fees and/or damage cost as determined by the lending library.All ILL materials must be checked out by the user. The limit is two ILL items at any one time. ILL Items must be picked up within five (5) business days after the library informs the user that the ILL material has arrived at the MCPL. Disregard of the above rules will result in the termination of a user’s ILL privileges.
